Mantua Manufacturing case study.


The customer.

Family owned and operated Mantua Manufacturing Company has provided outstanding bedding products since 1952 to customers all over the world. Mantua focuses on manufacturing quality-designed and tested products, evident in their Sealy Posturepedic bed frame, the strongest frame in existence. In addition to quality, Mantua provides timely product delivery and convenient pick-ups with manufacturing facilities and warehouses throughout the U.S.

The challenge.

Mantua Manufacturing wanted out of the freight business. Quoting freight shipments, reconciling freight bills and tracking shipments was not where they wanted to spend their time. They wanted to focus on their core business. Mantua and their customer service professionals pride themselves on creating value by offering outstanding assistance to their customers. Unfortunately, too much attention was being allocated to freight. The company was looking for a solution that was easy to use and would integrate into their internal systems, save the customer service team time, save the company money and most importantly, help restore service levels. Their freight service provider had to have high standards so that Mantua could continue to provide its customers with quick and reassuring responses.

The process.

Mantua was looking for a service provider to remove their freight burden. As they were wrapping up their request for proposal (RFP) process, they recalled Freightquote by C.H. Robinson’s technology from previous conversations with the company and decided to request one more proposal. They were looking for the best fit with their need for ease of use, time and cost savings and outstanding service. Mantua provided data for analysis and Freightquote went to work. They consulted with different parts of their business, including the custom solutions team, to create a plan to help Mantua meet each of their goals. Freightquote presented a solution. Mantua liked the representatives they met and their deep knowledge of the company’s capabilities and the service level commitment shown to them. They chose to move forward with Freightquote’s proposal.

The improvement. 

Electing the Freightquote solution meant process improvements, exceptional customer service and savings for Mantua. This holistic approach made Freightquote the standout option.

The adopted solution included Enterprise TMS (eTMS), Freightquote’s transportation management system. The eTMS product would free up time for Mantua’s service representatives. They’d no longer have to chase down freight quotes and choose the freight carrier since shipping personnel would have access to make those decisions and book the shipments. The shipping personnel could base those decisions on service, cost and their prior experience with a carrier.

The integration.

Mantua needed to integrate the eTMS API into their internal systems. The integration took a little time, but they used the platform through its web application in the interim. That proved useful in assessing the information that was necessary to share and allowed Freightquote and Mantua’s IT departments, each experts of their own company’s processes, to collaborate on an integration tailored to Mantua’s business.

The rollout.

The plan also called for a slow rollout. Freightquote immediately showed cost savings at one of Mantua’s warehouse locations, but needed more data to facilitate the same at the others. Taking their time made for smooth rollouts – in regard to both pricing and process – at each of the six locations.

The results.

Freightquote didn’t need to make much adjustment to address the service standards Mantua required. With a dedicated account executive, a team dedicated to their eTMS integration, a service team to support their freight shipping and an open line of communication, Freightquote was able to surpass Mantua’s expectations right out of the gate.

Since the implementation of the Freightquote solution, Mantua’s stakeholders meet frequently to discuss Freightquote and the contract carriers they choose to haul their freight. They take time to share their experiences with one another and provide feedback to Freightquote so that their implemented solution continues to meet or exceed the company’s goals.
